X1 bus back in Stafford Town Centre !
The popular X1 bus is returning to Stafford Town Centre after an absence of three years.
This will provide Staffordshire University’s Beaconside Campus with a new link with the town
every thirty minutes on Mondays to Fridays from Monday 17 September 2012.
Adam van Winsum, Environmental Manager for Staffordshire University said, “The reintroduction
of this service to Stafford town has been developed to integrate the campuses and provide an
improvement to sustainable travel choices to Beaconside. We are hopeful that the extension
will be a success and that it appeals to staff, students and the general public”.
As well as linking the two thriving University sites for the past eight years, The X1 bus provides a fast,
hourly, direct public service to and from Stoke-on-Trent City Centre for the residents of Stone, Barlaston,
Leyfield Park and Trentham. The service also doubles a link with Stoke Rail Station on behalf of
London Midland Trains. During University term time, the service is operated by new bakerbus
state-of-the-art Hybrid-diesel, green and clean double deck buses.
Phil Baker, Managing Director of bakerbus, said “This extension back to Stafford Town Centre will be
greatly welcomed and appreciated by the general public as well as the University population. We have
received many requests for this and we area confident that our fast alternative bus service will be a great
success.”
The new timetable will be published over the coming weeks and timetables will be delivered door to door
along the line of route.
